Playing Shakespeare
with The Prodigal Theatre Company
What can Shakespeare teach us about ourselves?
The themes of Shakespeare’s plays are universal and timeless and
will always reward a fresh investigation. Working with the award winning
founders of Prodigal Theatre (Alister O’Loughlin and Miranda Henderson),
participants will investigate the words and actions of some of Shakespeare’s
best loved characters.

Prodigal have, over seven years of teaching and performing Shakespeare,
developed a practice which is accessible to all, from beginners to experts.
Working from the original text participants will study, discuss, and if
they wish, enact characters and scenes before moving into their own interpretations.
Prodigal’s work emphasises the physical line of drama and this will
be reflected in the workshops.
Playing Shakespearean comedy and tragedy can open up aspects of our own
characters that we usually allow to remain hidden, and in a safe supportive
environment it becomes easy to understand our own natures through the
mirrors held up by Shakespeare.
Wear clothes that you’re comfortable to move in. No previous experience
is required.
