Voicework

Juliet Cox

In voice work we learn to free up the breathing, body and emotions to allow our full resonance to emerge. We can use this resonance in singing or learning to speak with more freedom.

Voice work and Singing Lessons (one-to-one)

Our voices often do not truly express who we are – be it through lack of confidence, or physical or emotional tension. Postural habits cause us to tighten muscles around the neck and shoulders or breathe inefficiently, which can lead to sore throats and voice strain.

If we sing, we may not feel confident to let the sound out, or may find it difficult to relax, project our voice, or develop good vocal technique.
Using our voice well can help us to feel whole and confident. This can improve our ability to communicate ourselves in everyday conversation as well as speaking in public.

In voice lessons the teacher can guide us in unravelling physical tension. This leads to improved breathing so that our bodies can fully support our voices, allowing our own unique sound to resonate freely, opening up our hearts and minds.

Juliet Cox is an experienced voice worker, singer and teacher of the Alexander Technique. She has developed her own unique method of applying Alexander principles to the voice, which in her experience works very effectively to free the voice. She works with anyone who wants to use their voice better - be it in singing, acting, public speaking or general communication skills. She runs “Free Your Voice” group workshops and “Harmony Singing” courses at Evolution as well as working with individuals on a one-to-one basis.
