She has been teaching for 7 years in the Brighton and Croydon area. She runs introductory workshops as well as giving individual lessons at Evolution. She also specialises in voice/singing work, and has developed a unique approach to freeing the voice using the principles of the Alexander Technique. Alexander Technique Lessons (one-to-one)Daily life imposes stress and strain on our bodies and minds which can build up over time. The Alexander Technique helps us to change the way we think and respond to our environment and restores balance in the way we use ourselves. The Alexander Technique is a unique method of re-education of the individual, which is increasing in popularity worldwide. It can help with back and neck pain, knee or joint problems, arthritis, stress, asthma, and generally improves our sense of well-being. Performing artists find it helpful with reducing stress and helping with co-ordination. The Technique can also help us in the workplace be it sitting better at our computer or staying calm in a crisis. Through individual lessons with a teacher, we learn to release muscular tension and change postural habits, and are guided by the teachers hands. As with any new skill, the Technique is best learned on a weekly basis for a course of 20-30 lessons, in order to change patterns of misuse and establish the new habits. However the progress of learning also depends on the pupils condition and enthusiasm, so a shorter course of lessons is also likely to be beneficial. You are free to try out an introductory session to see if it is right for you. Please call Suryagita on 01273 387862 to book an introductory lesson.
